Well slap my butt and call me Peggy, this is my 100th blog. As a matter of fact, it wasn’t but a few weeks ago that I got my 200th follower. Seriously – I want to thank each and every one of you who has commented, liked and followed. It is tremendously appreciated.

fourSo why am I telling you this? Am I expecting mass congratulations from the literal hordes of people reading my blog? No. I’m trying to figure out why anyone would care that I reached a round number. No one cheered when I reached 180 pounds going up of course, but when I hit 180 pounds going DOWN then suddenly ‘I looked so much healthier…’ and ‘I didn’t look like a manatee any longer.’

What’s our fascination with things ending in 0 or 5? Why do we celebrate them in a more special way? To show that I can indeed do research, I called up the local psychiatrist here in town and asked for a few minutes of her time. Of course, she is VERY used to seeing my number come up on her phone, so she immediately asked if I needed my whole hour to which I quickly replied “No….just a question or two”.

I sat down with Moe J. Lester, Psychologist and asked for her opinion on the roundness of numbers. “First, thank you for asking this question as it relates to so much in our lives. From the research done by the great onepsychiatrists of the past – Freud, Oscar, Meyer – I’ve done quite a bit of studying on this. It seems that the frontal lobe of our brain, or the paralatamus, contains an enzyme that actually releases neuro-doctromines when stimulated with the number 0 or 5. This release, normally felt as a small lump over your left eyebrow, actually flows through your bloodstream with the other parasitic cultures arriving from your capillaries, and combines to form a mild pleasing sensation in your 12th rib – or your ‘pleasure rib’ as we psychiatrists like to call it.”

Another thing I’ve found is that it is SO much easier to make up stuff and attribute it like a real person said it. It saves me so much time in my normal day to day life and I would recommend everyone give it a try. Anyway, real or not, Ms. Lester (do not EVER ask about her ex-husband) has some great points to share and I think we can all learn from her wise words.

Recently, there was a big something made over the 70th Anniversary of D-Day. Let me say up front that there fiveSHOULD be a big something made over the 70th Anniversary of D-Day. I just don’t get why they didn’t make a big something out of the 69th Anniversary of D-Day. The same people fought. The same people served. So why did we wait a whole year for the celebration? Do we have to wait another 5 years for the next one? What if France falls into the English Channel in the next 5 years? Noted geologist Dr. Lick D. Stone has announced that he believes that is EXACTLY what will happen in 2016 due to the shifting of the Trans-European Lava Belt approximately 3.2cm west of a line due south of 28 degrees north longitude. Goodbye croissants. But it will put us one country closer to Switzerland.

Holy crap – it really is easy to make up stuff. I ought to post more of these things on Facebook.

On to 101!

    • I wish you knew how long it took for me to select Peggy for that. It could have been anyone, but Peggy was the first name I thought of that sounded appropriately retro that I didn’t know anybody with that moniker.

I am so happy that I don’t have to wait another 5 years to celebrate a “special” anniversary. Start planning now for this year. I am looking at Hawaii or maybe a cruise. Oh the possibilities.

Well, OK, assume the position. But I refuse to call you Peggy. I’ll call you Peg, but I’m saving the gy for your 211th post. No, don’t ask me why. My pleasure rib just likes that number a whole lot.

    • Maybe we all have a number that hits that rib best. I’ll do research tomorrow and just stand in a corner – slowly counting. When I get a little jolt I’ll let you know what that number was.
